Sophisticated, alluring, and beautifully produced, Gypsy Teens is so thoroughly un-teenage-like that it’s hard to believe the musicians themselves are 12-17 years old. The eight teens who comprise the Austin Bella Corda Guitar Ensemble are part of the Childbloom Guitar Program here in Austin and their music is, quite simply, phenomenal.
The songs range from 15th century Spanish romances to English folk tunes to modern classical compositions, all written or arranged by the musicians’ teacher, Kevin Taylor. The students’ technique is masterful; the songs lyrical.
Gypsy Teens deserves a prominent place in every parent’s musical library—not only because the music is so lovely, but also because it’s versatile: the CD can be used as toddler go-to-sleep music as well as background melodies for a formal dinner party. All in all, an exceptionally pleasurable way to relax, unwind, and experience the beauty of what a guitar can do in the right hands.
